ER WAIT
iAndalusia Health's Birthing Center is devoted to bringing you the most comprehensive, compassionate, and exceptional clinical care from our experienced staff and physicians. Our services are geared toward assisting women through the major milestones of childbirth, from planning a pregnancy to follow-up care after the delivery, and everything in between.
Bringing a new life into the universe is an unequaled, almost divine experience ‒ one you will cherish all your life.
The Birthing Center at Andalusia Health is here to make sure your experience is memorable and special, for all the right reasons. Our mission is to care for you and your growing family, whether you choose natural labor with pain management (plus skilled coaching, movement, and relaxation techniques), prefer the option of epidural anesthesia, or want to schedule an induction of labor or a c-section through your healthcare provider.
The Center offers five labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) suites that keep you and your baby in the same room, supporting your autonomy and the sanctity of your birthing experience.
Each room comes with a rocker for mom, a couch sleeper and flat-screen TV for dad, and a baby cot for your new little one. We “room-in” ‒ meaning your baby stays with you ‒ to support early bonding and reduce stress for you and your baby.
Andalusia Health welcomes hundreds of babies into the world every year. As Covington County's primary provider of obstetrics and gynecology services, we provide an environment that is warm, comforting, and especially welcoming to new family members. We pride ourselves on offering the support, education, and empowerment to help women meet their own health goals throughout pregnancy and help them achieve the birth they envision.
This care is provided in a safe, “best of both worlds” environment ‒ a birthing center located within a hospital setting. Our very low incidences of primary c-sections and practically non-existent maternal morbidities are a testament to our high-quality care. Andalusia Health has even been recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for outstanding quality in maternity care.
A Fetal Non-Stress Test (NST) measures your baby’s heart rate to help assess fetal well-being. At Andalusia Health, we recommend NSTs beginning at 28 weeks of pregnancy. A weekly NST for healthy, uncomplicated pregnancies can be a source of reassurance that your baby is doing well. For higher-risk pregnancies, such as those with pre-existing or gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, an NST every three to four days can help make sure baby is doing well and reduce the risk of stillbirth.
We fully encourage uninterrupted, skin-to-skin contact with your baby after delivery. Andalusia Health nurses are trained to monitor your baby right on your chest until you’re ready to have your baby weighed.
If you choose to breastfeed, our staff of Certified Lactation Counselors and our Lactation Consultant are here to help and answer any questions you may have and provide guidance. One of the more unique benefits of our Birthing Center is that newborn screenings are completed here before you go home. Your baby’s hearing test, screening for critical congenital heart defects, and comprehensive screen for metabolic disorders are all completed here so that you can take your baby home with that peace of mind. Circumcisions are also performed upon request.
The Birthing Center at Andalusia Health is here to offer the comfort and care of a Birthing Center experience with the additional safety and security of a hospital delivery. We welcome the opportunity to be part of this new chapter in your life. That’s why we’re here.
